This weekend, the New York Times Magazine will profile the dark lord of rightwing talk radio himself, one Rush Limbaugh. It comes just as the conservative movement he fearlessly leads is apparently collapsing around him—as was reported in the Times Magazine just three months ago. Not to mention, the wildly unpopular president Limbaugh helped gain office is phoning-in his final months in office, and the Republican candidate vying to replace him is “too old.” (This according to Limbaugh.)
But apparently that’s not getting El Rushbo, which is apparently what he calls himself, down. According to the story, written by Zev Chafets (the first journalist to ever enter the A.M. bloviator’s massive Florida estate) life is luscious in the land of Limbaugh. Here are some highlights from the profile:
El Rushbo loves fine automobiles
Since he doesn’t believe in global warming, it should come as no surprise that Limbaugh no fewer than six Maybach 57Ss, which cost just under half a million dollars and get 10 miles to the gallon. Though not mentioned in the story, it’s safe to assume he keeps these cars idling in his driveway at all times.
He just wants to be loved…by himself
Rush told the times his drug problems “stemmed from his inability to love himself sufficiently.” The giant life-size portrait of himself about the main staircase of his 24,000 square foot principle residence.
He is truly “America’s Anchorman”
His library is a Ron Burgundy punchline. Its construction required the deforestation of an “acre of mahogany” and all of the books are leather-bound.
The movement may be dead, but Rush is rich!
His recently renewed contract will bring him nearly $40 million a year, and comes with a nine (9) figure bonus, which explains who he can afford to spend $54 million on a private jet and leave $5,000 tips.
