When it comes to our faces, from Botox to lasers, we have an arsenal to defy the aging process, but what about our hair? There is no question that as we age, it’s not just wrinkles that creep in. Our hair shows our age as well.
Gray Matter
I don’t need to tell you that gray hair is probably the biggest culprit for our lackluster locks as we get older. But why are you going gray at 30, you ask? Oh, how we’d love to blame it on our jobs (or the men in our lives), but it’s strictly hereditary. Yes, along with those “child bearing” hips and broad back, we get our lovely gray hair from our parents. And while there are a few women who truly look spectacular with salt and pepper hair, very few women can actually rock this look. Unfortunately for most of us, it just ends up making us look older. Gray hair ages you, full stop.
Lighten Up
When it comes to coloring your hair, I recommend gradually going lighter. Try to stay away from wearing too dark of a hair color. Lighter levels of color and warmer tones tend to look softer and more flattering against aging skin.
Bang for Your Buck
Have your stylist give you bangs. This is the best way to instantly take years off of your appearance while making those lines in your forehead disappear. And, need I say, much cheaper and much less painful than plastic surgery or Botox.
Barely There
You may have noticed that the ponytail you were sporting in the 80’s is slightly thinner now. (You know the one that you could barely fit that lime green scrunchie around?) It happens to the best of us. For some, this may be heaven sent, but for most, it’s just another sign of the time. Don’t fret! For one, take a daily vitamin, particularly one for hair and nails. Then, start using a product for anti-aging. My favorite is Phytodensium Serum. When applied to your scalp before styling, it gives the fullness that only a bleach touch-up is known to give hair. Finally, the right cut can make a huge difference. Usually a more solid shape above the shoulders gives a thicker appearance. But if you’d like to keep your longer length, getting a layered cut done with a razor can give you that added texture you’re lacking.
A lady never tells her real age. A smart lady never lets her hair give it away.
