Achy Obejas

Born in Havana, Cuba, Achy Obejas is a fiction writer, poet, translator, and journalist. She is the author of five books, including three novels: DAYS OF AWE, MEMORY MAMBO, and RUINS. She is translated Junot Diaz's Pulitzer Prize–winning THE BRIEF WONDROUS LIFE OF OSCAR WAO into Spanish. She is a monthly columnist at In These Times; the recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellowship, and has won a team Pulitzer Prize for the series “Gateway to Gridlock” while at the Chicago Tribune, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in poetry, the Studs Terkel Journalism Award, a Cintas Foundation Fellowship, and a USA Ford Fellowship. She is currently the Distinguished Visiting Writer at Mills College. Follow her @achylandia
